The beaches of Koh Tao offer travellers the opportunity to relax into a lifestyle that is quite difficult to return from. I visited in 2004 and the plan was to stay for a few days. 6 weeks later we were still there and only just reaching the point that we better get moving. Waking each day and rolling out of the hut and into the beachside restaurant for what invariably turned out to be a chicken sandwich and bottle of coke. The day would proceed into a leisurely read or maybe a game of chess and that would continue until mid afternoon, with a couple of cooling dips into the see just to break up the day a bit. Late afternoon would see the frisbee come out and once everyone had tired of that it was swim, shower, dinner then party. Repeat.
I do look back and think that I perhaps could have done a little more but at the time it was just a very rewarding way to pass the time and revel in the fact that I had nothing else to do. Pure relaxation was attained and I suppose that's the whole point of a holiday anyway, isn't it?
