Many people in Spain celebrate the life and deeds of James the Great, on St. James' Day (Santiago Apostol), which takes place on July 25th. St. James was one of Jesus' first disciples. And many people believe that his remains are buried in Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
On and around St. James' Day, celebrations take place all over Spain, with the greatest of these being in Santiago de Compostela where parades, firework displays and bullfights fill the streets.

This two day trip during which you will walk the last 37km of the Camino, will allow you to enjoy all of the highlights of the Feast. Starting off in Azura, you will walk an average of 18km each day (4 hours) and will finish your trek in Santiago de Compostela.
During your trip you will be able to experience concerts of modern and traditional music, dance events, special church services to honour the work and life of St. James, art exhibitions by local artists, theatre productions and street shows.
On July 24th, Santiago de Compostela will be transformed into a festival town with a giant fireworks display and 3D entertainment in front of the town's cathedral. On Plaza del Obradoiro on the evening of the 24th of July there will be a sound and light show. This spectacular 4D projection of media images on the facade of the Cathedral, and fireworks, are visible from throughout the city.
On July 25th, special services are held in the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. Church officials swing a large incense burner constantly during this service and fill the whole church with incense smoke.
