Cueva de los manos
Cueva de los manos
About this favourite
Cueva de los manos, or Cave of the Hands is the name for the location of some of the worlds earliest graffiti. The site consists of numerous hand stencils that were created by the indigenous inhabitants mixing a mineral paint that was then blown through a small bone pipe to create a negative image of the hand, much like a modern day diffuser. Considering the age of the paintings it's staggering that the detail and the colours are still so vivid. The site is also home to paintings of wildlife and plants that are thought to be up to 10,000 years old.
