Great news for chocolate lovers - it really has been proven that regularly eating the stuff is connected to a lower BMI (body mass index) and it's not just wishful thinking!
A study at the University of California has used a group of almost 1000 men and women for research into cholesterol beating drugs called statins. Part of the enquiry related to lifestyle choices, food and exercise and one of the questions involved the consumption of chocolate.
It seems that the polyphenols (plant chemicals) in chocolate outweigh the effects of the fat and may be beneficial to the metabolism, giving regular chocolate eaters a lower than average BMI.
That's brilliant news and confirmation at last that a balanced diet really does involve a chocolate bar in each hand!
