Fresh Giant Panda Scat Has Been Found In Jiuzhai Valley National Park, Indicating That The Panda Is Back!
About this favourite

Last week on 25th June, fresh Giant Panda scat was found in Jiuzhai Valley National Park, in China's Sichuan Province.

The scat which is estimated to be two weeks old is the first fresh sample found within the park in over 10 years, said to come from an adult male panda.

The panda is yet to be spotted by staff but this is an encouraging sign for everyone interested in Giant Panda habitats.

The bamboo in the national park flowered in the 1980's and subsequently died. The typical flowering interval can be decades long but the bamboo has now returned in abundance, providing a perfect habitat for the Giant Panda.

Manuel Mascarenhas, Managing Director of Wendy Wu Tours, the UK's leading operator to China says, "We are absolutely delighted to receive this news from our colleagues in the Jiuzhai Valley National Park. The panda is a symbol of conservation efforts worldwide and the discovery of fresh panda scat is a very positive indicator that a new panda colony could form."

The Jiuzhai Valley National Park, also known as Nine Villages Valley, is a breathtaking botanical display located in the Min Shan mountain range in South West China. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, the park offers still sparkling lakes, tumbling waterfalls and rich dense forests dotted with colorful orchids and rhododendrons.  Home to nine Tibetan villages, over 220 bird species, as well as a number of endangered plant and animal species such as the Sichuan golden monkey, the Jiuzhai Valley National Park is one of China's most treasured sites.

Wendy Wu Tours offers a number of private and group tours to China, encompassing the Jiuzhai Valley National Park, together with a visit to the Chengdu Panda Reserve, one of China's leading conservation centres focusing on breeding, raising, and protecting the endangered Giant Panda.
