An experiment is underway in a new boutique style hotel in Newcastle. Traditionally a Gideon Bible is to be found in all hotel rooms but the new Hotel Indigo is providing a Kindle in each room pre loaded with the Bible instead of the usual hard back copy.
The electronic reader will be available in all the hotel rooms until mid July when the trial will be reviewed. A decision will then be made as to whether the policy will be adopted across the hotel chain or withdrawn in favour of the paper variety. Other religion's scriptures and holy books are also available for free download on request during the experiment.
It is not just Gideons that could be replaced by electronic tecghnology as many companies are considering the introduction of tablets of some sort and in some places iPad menus are on offer.
