Mt Tongariro erupts
About this favourite

New Zealand's Mount Tongariro has lain dormant for more than a century but over the past few weeks has shown signs of renewed activity, culminating in an eruption of gas and ash from the Te Mari Craters. An ash cloud rose 12km (7.5 miles) and travelled 250km (160 miles) in 4 hours depositing ash over a wide area.
