Male Euglossa bee
New bee has tongue twice the size of it's body
About this favourite
A new species of brightly coloured bee, Euglossa Natesi, found in the Colombian rainforest has been found to have the longest tongue, in proportion to the size of it's body, of any creature on Earth. The tongue measures twice the size of it's body at almost 4mm (1.32 inches) and is kept curled up in it's mouth when not probing orchids in the rainforest.
