New fruit T109
New fruit to hit British shops
About this favourite
A new fruit, a cross between an apple and a pear and currently known as T109, is to go on sale in the UK this week. The fruit has been called a papple because it looks and tastes like an apple but with the skin and texture of a pear. It is being grown in New Zealand but could be grown in the UK's similar cool climate. The product is likely to be priced at £1 so is more expensive than a standard apple but is said to make a refreshing change.
