About this favourite

Adelboden, Switzerland:  Chalet Weidli (www.chaletweidli.com), a contemporary luxury apartment in Adelboden, is being offered for rental for the first time this season and, as an introductory offer, has slashed its rates to just £1,750 (usual price £3,500) for one week only, the week commencing Sunday 22nd January.

The five-bedroom duplex apartment comfortably sleeps 12 in two double rooms, one twin and two bunk bed rooms for the kids; there are also three bathrooms and a double height open-plan living room with distinct kitchen, dining and lounging areas.  Every room has spectacular view of the Alps, and there are two large balconies with seating and dining facilities.

Natural materials have been used throughout, with polished slate floors and local wood used to great effect, particularly in the large living room.  Designer modern furniture, contemporary artworks and a large flat-screen Bang & Olufsen television complete the picture.

The apartment is located just 400 metres from the centre of the resort and the main ski lift.  Adelboden is a very typical Swiss mountain village lying at 1350m, which is filled to the rafters with traditional wooden chalets; the kind of place where the locals leave their front doors unlocked and their keys in the ignition.

The resort offers world-class skiing (a FIS World Cup event takes place every January), with over 180km of perfectly groomed pistes, and there are more bars and restaurants per km of piste than anywhere else in the Alps.

One of the homes of Alpine tourism, it was to Adelboden that Sir Henry Lunn (later of Lunn Poly) organised the first ski package holiday in 1903. Luckily, it then fell out of favour and it remains unspoilt, still steeped in local tradition…

Adelboden is only a 45-minute drive from the Swiss capital of Berne, which is serviced by daily flights from London City Airport (www.flyskywork.com).  Zurich and Geneva are about two to two and a half hours away by car, slightly longer by train and bus, but the public transport system works like clockwork and the scenery en route is stunning.
