The volcanoes at San Pedro used to be a important sacred place to the Incas.
They used to carry out rituals to worship the Sun and leave San Pedro on a pilgrimage. The celebrations would take place on the Inca New Year in the winter solstice.
Now, however, they are a very popular tourist attraction with many tours of the volcanoes taking place everyday.
