About this favourite

As part of a conservation programme two snow leopards have been fitted with satellite collars to track their movements over the vast areas of Asia including the Himalayas and Hindu Kush. Scientists will be able to measure the distances covered by the animals in their mountaihabitats.
Snow Leopards have been on the Red List of endangered species for 40 years and their numbers are thought to be between 3000 and 7500. Poaching for their skins and body parts is a major reason for their decline as is a loss of habitat and sources of food.
