About this favourite

Taxila is one of the most important achaeological sites in the whole of Asia.  Located 30km north west of Rawalpindi in Pakistan it has been, by turn, enormously significant to the Persian, Greek, Roman and Chinese cultures as well as being a centre of Buddhist pilgrimage.  It's location on the bank of the River Indus and the Silk Route from Europe to China made it a centre of cultural and strategic importance.  The archaeological ruins have been designated a World Heritage Site .
