Bogart's African Queen undergoing restoration
The African Queen
About this favourite
The star, alongside Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn of the classic movie African Queen, was definitely in decline when she was rescued by boating enthusiasts in Florida. Now restored and in full working order the 100 year old boat, originally named S/L Livingstone, is operating around Key Largo, Florida plying the tourist routes to the delight of movie buffs and visitors. A different sort of workhorse than either the film portrayed or her previous life as a cargo boat on Lake Albert in Africa. Such is the significance of the old steamship that she has been added to US National Register of Historic Places.
