The North South Divide: There's No Place Like (Holiday) Home
About this favourite

Holiday home buyers from the towns Sheffield, Nottingham, Peterborough, Lincoln, Doncaster, Derby, Leicester and Birmingham made up nearly 80% of the owners of holiday homes at Away Resorts' Tattershall Lakes holiday park, in Lincolnshire. All of these owners live easily within two hours' drive of their holiday home.

Conversely, over 20% of owners of holiday homes at Away Resorts' Whitecliff Bay holiday village on the Isle of Wight come from the immediate Portsmouth area or the Isle of Wight itself, only an hour's drive away maximum, with a further 30% coming from Guildford, Kingston upon Thames, Bristol, Southampton, Brighton, Croydon, Oxford and Romford - all within a 2 hour trip.

In fact, no Whitecliff Bay holiday home owners come from further North than Leicester or Peterborough - and only 2% of owners are prepared to come that far for their regular UK holiday.

Birmingham people stick out a bit, and are certainly split between North and South (are they Northerners, Southerners or Midlanders?). They really like owning their own holiday home, however, even though they can't quite decide whether they would rather travel upwards or downwards to get to it. A significant 12% of the Tattershall Lakes' homes' owners are Brummies, but a still considerable 5% of the owners of Whitecliff Bay homes come from Birmingham too.

Carl Castledine, CEO of Away Resorts, says: "Our figures show that we really don't want to travel too far to our holiday homes, and that even if we have a break from our immediate vicinity and day-to-day lives, it is still a holiday. The great thing about owning a holiday home close to your real home is that you can pop there at weekends and half-terms, and really make the most of the investment, without spending hours on a motorway.

But, you can also take advantage of loads of great facilities and activities that you wouldn't get the chance to do at home."

The facilities at Tattershall Lakes are second to none. With 8 lakes in the park, there is jet-skiing, waterskiing, fishing, even banana-boating to do, plus an 18 hole golf course and bike hire, with acres of woodland to explore. There's also a new leisure complex with swimming pool and spa, with a menu packed full of tantalising treatments including everything from manicures and pedicures to hot-stone therapy massages. This is the result of a £1.2 millon investment by Away Resorts this year.

Meanwhile, holiday home owners at Whitecliff Bay have their own secluded beach to enjoy, which received the highest accolade in this year's Good Beach Guide.
The park is in a stunning location near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight and offers a whole host of activities for all the family. It has an indoor heated pool with flume, an outdoor pool with sun terrace, toddler pools and sauna, as well as an indoor soft playground, adventure playgrounds and mini golf.

Holiday homes at Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire cost from just £19,000 for the Saint David Special Edition. Away Resorts has teamed up with caravan manufacturer ABI to launch this new style of extremely affordable caravan. An adaption of St David, a popular caravan make, the Saint David Special Edition is 40% cheaper. It is 28ft long and 10 ft wide and can sleep up to six with a master bedroom, twin room and pull-out sofa bed in the lounge.

Holiday homes at Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight cost from £26,744 for a Willerby Rio, a 2 bed holiday home with double glazing, gas central heating throughout. The kitchen is well equipped, with plenty of storage and comes with granite effect worktops.
