Traditional carpets
Traditional carpets
About this favourite
The art of carpet weaving in ancient Persia and modern Iran dates back to 500BC. Based on classical pattern groups and woven with natural fibres of wool or silk, the traditions continue to this day. Patterns are still passed from father to son in long established local designs which have changed very little over the centuries. Traditionally these carpets indicated the wealth, social standing and identity of the nomadic tribes that made them.
