About this favourite
The Zulu people make up the largest ethnic group in South Africa and played a major part in the history of the country. Under apartheid they were classified as third class citizens but now enjoy full citizen's rights. Traditionally Zulu society has been based on a hierarchy headed by a chief, women being involved in farming and men hunting and herding. In modern society the importance of kinship is still retained but Zulus work in all walks of life.
