A sublime hat-trick from striker Yan Pheara gave Cambodia their first win at the Homeless World Cup in Paris, beating Sweden 3-2.
In a game of full of energy, Sweden may look upon the loss harshly after enjoying much of the possession and threatening the Cambodian goal on numerous occassions. However the Cambodian side dug in deep and despite their obvious physical deficiencies against their European counterparts, innate technical ability saw them claim victory, with three sublime strikes from Pheara.
Speaking after the game, the hat-trick hero spoke of his joy: “I feel like I am flying like a bird. I am so proud to be a Cambodian.”
Cambodia manager Jimmy Campbell echoed his player's obvious joy but remained grounded, urging his players not to get carried away and worse, complacent.
“We are delighted to get the three points. It’s a big boost for our confidence."
Cambodia will play Austria in their next Group F match today, before facing defending World Champions and tournament favourites Brazil.
