Cameroon star Samuel Eto’o is on the verge of joining Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala who were recently bought by mega-rich Russian owners and have been linked to a number of the game’s greatest players including Andrey Arshavin, Carlos Tevez and Neymar. As well as boasting Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos in their ranks, this summer they have already bought Chelsea midfield Yuri Zhirkov and aim to offer Eto’o a $32,000,000 per year deal.
At 30 years old it can be fair to say that Eto’o, prolific as he is, is entering the twilight of his career. And having already achieved almost everything a player can at Barcelona and Inter Milan, including 3 Champions League trophies, it can be argued Eto’o is ready for a big final pay check. His records for Cameroon have been as impressive having won 2 African Cup of Nations as well as an Olympic medal in 2000.
There is still talk of a swap deal to Manchester City involving Carlos Tevez but this is far from conclusion. Whether or not Eto’o decides to cash-in, remains to be seen.
