Today online campaign group Avaaz are delivering a petition signed by over 480,000 people to the Friends of Syria group meeting in Tunisia. Following the death of two international journalists on Wednesday Avaaz is demanding a ceasefire. Leaders are being called on to protect civilians, get humanitarian aid into the country, support the Syrian opposition, toughen sanctions and stop the flow of weapons to the regime army. Ricken Patel, Executive Director of Avaaz said that during the group's own efforts to bring medical supplies to the country “Seven unarmed activists, including one doctor, were assassinated in cold blood.” Avaaz believes that the Tunis Friends of Syria meeting could be the best opportunity to get urgent and comprehensive action to save the Syrian people.
Names can still be added to the petition at: http://www.avaaz.org/en/arab_league_save_syria_3/?fbnotepressrelease
