Coke production in Shanxi stopped while product testing goes on
A Coca Cola bottling plant in Shanxi, in northern China, has been halted because of concerns over the quality of the drink. There have been press reports that the percentage of chlorine in the water may exceed acceptable limits and inspections are being carried out to ensure that quality and safety have not been compromised. Government and company reports seem to differ as to the cause of the production outage but both are working towards a swift resolution to the problem.
China is a huge market for Coca Cola where popularity of the drink is enormous and Shanxi is just one of 40 plants across the country. Investment by Coca Cola is scheduled to hit $4billion over the next 3 years to satisfy the surging demand.
