Cyprus House President Well Pleased With Results In Visit To Australia

House of Representatives Speaker Yiannakis Omirou has expressed his complete satisfaction over the result of his visit week long visit to Australia.

In statements at Larnaca International Airport on his arrival from Australia, Omirou, who led a six member inter-parliamentary delegation, said “I would like to express the absolute satisfaction of the parliamentary delegation for the understanding we found from the Australian government and legislative bodies on the efforts for a solution to the Cyprus problem”.

He said it was a firm longstanding position which is based on the UN Security Council resolutions on Cyprus and the UN charter, adding that “this support comes from the governments of Australia and the country’s political parties.

The House Speaker thanked the members of the parliamentary delegation that accompanied him “for the excellent level of cooperation during this important visit” to promote the national interests of Cyprus at an extremely important country, such as Australia.

The visit, held from 6-12 February, took place at the invitation of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia.

The delegation visited Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney and held a series of contacts with political personalities on a federal and state level.cna
