Golden Eye diamond for sale at US Marshals' auction

The 'Golden Eye' diamond is finally going on sale at auction on 6 September on the instruction of the US Marshals Service.

The 43 carat yellow stone was siezed by the FBI in 2007 when it was found to be in the possession of convicted money launderer Paul Monea and despite years of wrangling over ownership, there is no proof that it was owned by Monea and the US Justice Department has finally confirmed it's forfeiture.

Bids in excess of $900,000 are invited while previous estimates of it's value put it at anywhere between $15m-$20m.  If you have some spare cash lying around then you could do worse than bid for this bargain
