Kofi Annan quits as peacemaker in Syria
Kofi Annan has resigned his role as peacemaker in Syria citing lack of support for his plan and describing his job as impossible. The escalation of the violence and the UN vetoes by China and Russia to sanctions has meant that despite a UN presence to observe the fighting, the bloodshed has not stopped and in many ways has escalated into a full scale civil war.
