Near miss at JFK
A catastrophic collision on the runway at JFK, New York was narrowly avoided when a Lufthansa Airbus with 286 passengers and crew managed to abort it's take off run to miss an Egyptair Boeing 777 that had failed to turn as instructed and taxied into the path of the oncoming Airbus.
Air Traffic Control voice recordings capture the urgency of the situation. Both aircraft were delayed and the Lufthansa plane was inspected for damage and required to cool it's brakes for almost an hour before being instructed to depart.
Both flights landed safely at their destinations.
