Queensland hit by new flooding
Less than 12 months after serious flooding devastated Queensland, heavy rainfall is forcing residents of the town of St George to abandon their homes. The Balonne River is now at 13.48 m (44 feet) and still rising. St George was badly affected in 2011 and again in March 2010. Mud and dirt is being dumped along its banks to form levees which it is hope will contain the river but this is far from certain and the most vulnerable are leaving the town for evacuation centres in Darby or farther afield to Brisbane.
