After months of protests and at least 30 public suicides, it is believed that China has closed Tibet's borders to foreign tourists. This effectively cuts off the country known as 'the roof of the world' to all non Chinese visitors. Many western tour operators have been forced to cancel visits to Tibet and have no idea when the borders will reopen to foreigners. All non Chinese visitors require a visa to visit the country and must travel in officially approved tour groups. They are closely monitored during their stay in the country.
All travellers are advised to contact their tour operator
