US Embassy in Oslo evacuated following bomb scare

The discovery of a suspicious item hidden beneath a car has led police to evacuate the US Embassy in Oslo and surrounding buildings. Bomb squad teams are working to identify the object and to make it safe. Office workers and visitors are being kept away from the area until the all clear is given.

There have been a number of false alarms in recent days in Oslo and Norway's police force are anxious to ensure that  the incident is dealt with safely.

 

Norwegian police say the U.S. Embassy in Oslo and surrounding buildings have been evacuated after a suspicious object was found beneath a car near the embassy.

Spokesman Martin Todnem says that police have evacuated a 500 meter (yard) area around the embassy and that a bomb squad has been dispatched to the area.
