Beneath one the least green areas of New York City lies a sprawling space of unused trolley terminal that is currently under renovation to become one of the most advanced underground gardens in the world.
The project lies beneath the Upper East Side and visions of advanced solar technology are being put into action to channel sunlight underground to enable trees and plants to grow in this unused but enormous space.
This proposed subterranean garden is to be placed throughout the subway tunnel with plans to use state of the art technology to create a park that is completely natural with a controlled temperature and safe water levels. Optic cables have been suggested as being the main and most likely form of getting sunlight into the tunnel as they are capable of capturing the necessary elements for photosynthesis.
Seeing as the biggest problem seems to be solved then the project looks like it is going ahead as the men behind the Delancey Underground are currently in talks with the MTA and the local community governing board about the proposed park.
