Upgrades and restoration work to the old Long Bien Bridge over Hong River in Ha Noi have opened up the possibility of creating a cultural centre on the bridge itself. It will include space to display an old steam train to commemorate the bridge's illustrious past as well as a 9 storey modern structure in the shape of a lotus flower that would showcase contemporary Vietnamese art, museums, concert halls, cafes and restaurants.  The architect has also incorporated an art park with hanging gardens on the arches of the bridge in a design that will utilise every part of the historic structure.

City planners have been impressed with the scheme and the next major task will be to raise the funding for the 10 year project.
