Mark Twain once said 'Mauritius was made first, then heaven was copied from it'. I'm sure those who have experienced the true magnificence of this island would agree. Mauritius boasts beaches of white sands and clear waters that would make anyone think they have arrived in paradise.
With year round sunshine and awe inspiring scenery, it's no wonder that tourists from honeymooners to celebrities are flocking to Mauritius year after year for a little bit of R&R.
One of Mauritius' most visited beaches is Grand Baie, which is rife with activities which are tailored to suit everyone's tastes. For sun-worshippers such as myself laying back on the sands whilst taking in the breath taking views, or burying myself in a book is an amazing way to spend the day. However for those in need of a little more excitement why not take to the pristine waters of the ocean where there are a number of seas excursions and watersports available to thrill you.
Grand Baie is also known for its abundance in shopping and restaurants with a number of different foods awaiting to tantalise your tastebuds. However it's the evening when Grand Baie really comes alive, with bars and clubs open so you can party till the little hours, before returning the next day and doing it all over again!
Whilst here don't forget to take in Mauritius' other beaches - Flic En Flac, Belle Mare, Péreybère, Mont Choisy and my personal favourite Bain Boeuf (Just to name a few!). These gems of Mauritius will leave you spoilt for choice.
You'll almost lose track of time as it flies by, and soon you'll be wishing you had booked a longer stay.
Yes Mauritius truly is an exquisite island full of hidden treasure, beautiful scenery and grace that will leave even the most avid traveller lost for words. It seems that heaven truly does exist.
