In Ghana, the people of the Ga tribes are celebrating the Homowo Festival. The word Homowo means ‘to make fun of hunger.’ It is understood the festival began after a deadly famine swept the region of the Accra Plains, home of the Ga people. When food was once again plentiful, the Ga began the festival to make ridicule hunger. The celebrations last for 14 days and on the final day, the people mourn for those who have died.
