Mona Lisa to be reconstructed
About this inspiration
The model for Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, owner of the world's most enigmatic smile, may have been uncovered by archaeologists. A skull has been found under St Ursula's convent in Florence and it is thought to be Lisa Gherardini, da Vinci's most famous artistic subject. Extensive tests will be carried out and if it is confirmed, forensic artists will attempt to reconstruct her face by building up from the skull in the hope of recapturing the underlying structure responsible for one of the most recognisable smiles of all time.
