The new Model S from Tesla is quite simply a stunning vehicle. In terms of looks, it is sleek, stylish and super sexy, but it's what's going on underneath that shiny exterior that really deserves a mention.
The Model S runs exclusively on electricity and unlike some of its counterparts its performance is truly electrifying. (sorry) Boasting a 0-60 acceleration time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph this is no hybrid or sinclair C5. This is a car that will outstrip many of its petrol fuelled rivals quite effortlessly and leave them trailing in the fresh air that the Model S leaves behind it.
There are 3 different batteries that can be fitted to the car and each offers its driver a differing range in distance that it can travel. The models available are 160 miles, 230 miles and 300 miles, making most everyday journeys within reach from a single charge. Charging can be done at home or on the move as the car can plug in to a standard 240v socket although remember that it will be cheaper to top up overnight when electricity tariffs are cheaper.
With all this performance it's nice to see that the little details haven't been forgotton and the intelligent key is one of the best little details I've seen. As you approach the car your personal seat and steering wheel settings are configured and the engine begins once you have put on your seatbelt.
Prices as yet for the UK are unconfirmed but the standard model comes in at just under $50,000 in the states. If a similar pricepoint is achieved here in the UK then I believe the Tesla to be a serious contender in helping people change the way they look at electric transportation.
