Relics from the Middle Ages go on show at Furness Abbey
About this inspiration
Remarkable relics from the Middle Ages which were found in the grave of an Abbot are to be displayed at Furness Abbey in Cumbria. The items,a Bishop's crozier and a ring were buried with the Abbot in the 1150s and have remained undisturbed for hundreds of years. The Abbot, whose identity is unknown, is thought to have been the head of a monastery and a very powerful man in the local area. The monastery was originally established in Tulketh before relocating to Furness, by the Order of Savigny and later was run by the Cirstercian order.
