Roberto Parra, known in Chile as El Tio Roberto, Uncle Robert, is a Chilean singer-songwriter and folklorist. He is also a member of the Parra family, known throughout Chile for producicng an unusually high number of successful artists.
As a teenager in the 1930s, Uncle Robert played in circuses and cabarets around Chile. In the 1940s he moved to the port city of San Antonio. It is here that he met La Negra Estar, the prostitute with whom he started the sentimental affair that would later become the inspiration for a book of poetry, a stage play, and the album.
