The Skeleton Coast
About this inspiration
The Skeleton Coast is a geographical region located on the Atlantic coast of Namibia and northern Angola. The region is so-named because of the many bleached seal and whale skeletons which are remnants of when the whaling industry was active in the area. A more figurative meaning of the name refers to the rusting shipwrecks which dot the beach, with upwards of a thousand vessels being wrecked as a result of collisions with rocks just offshore, not sighted in the frequent and heavy fog.
