Urban Tree Planter

The Bonzai Approach to Green Infrastructure

Roof Tops:

The Urban Tree Planter is the perfect way to integrate a green solution to our urban environment. The green rooftop market has exploded exponentially over the last few years and one area that is now being exploited is delivering large mature trees onto a rooftop in protected and safe contained environment. Our modular system has a managed root ball containment and self irrigating system built in, so it's simply pick up and drop in!   By raising our canopy to the rooftop and including large trees it will help combat the cause of the urban heat island effect and water attenuation, whilst at the same time offering an extended habitat for our dwindling urban wild life.

National Protection:

Crash Barriers and Bollards are in every town and city but although they offer protection and security to our built environment they don't always offer the ascetics that a modern day urban realm deserves. By offering a crash and impact protection system and at the same time fulfilling planning and regulation needs to green our towns. The UTP may be the perfect product in today's security market by delivering a root ball containment system of large mature trees in an impact resistant planter.

Local Facilities and Contaminated Land:

Many areas offer little or poor root nourishment to support a large Tree. Some areas are total no go's for re planting due to contamination. A root ball containment system as used in the UTP will allow you to protect and manage a trees root ball system and at the same time allow for continued growth.

Using a standardised modular system will allow specifies and architects to "plan in" large trees into their projects without the fear of root infringement and damage to local assets. Using the UTP will allow local areas to have a greener infrastructure with very little fuss, satisfying local planning authority regulations and guide lines. We also know through research that greening our environment helps to reduce crime and brings a sense of pride to planted areas, a great reason to use the UTP when planting large trees into local facilities such as train stations, bus stations, city centres and other populated areas.

With the UTP we are attempting to create a standard for urban tree installation and management. As with the Container industry, when a standardised container size was agreed the industry flourished and created many jobs globally. We hope that if this system gains support many more trees can be placed back into the rural environment once they have served their duration within the increasingly stringent urban realm.

This sounds far fetched but if an urban tree is damaged, diseased, need removing or replacing because its too big etc, once there is a socket in the ground, anyone could replace that tree quickly and effectively without damaging the tree, street, building or services. That established tree can then be removed from the cube and retired into non urban areas or sold on as trees will only increase in value.
