Africa presents the visitor with a dazzling range of sights and cultures. On the shores of the Mediterranean the heritage is Arab, while the ancient land of Egypt bears witness to the glories of the Pharaohs with the Pyramids and temples beside the Nile. The world's largest desert, the Sahara, stretches for thousands of miles from the Atlantic to the Red Sea. In Central Africa are the rain forests and savannahs where lions, elephants and rhinos roam. Snow-capped Kilimanjaro is the highest peak, while in its remote misty homeland the Mountain Gorilla still survives. In the south are found the ancient Namib Desert and the scenic splendours of the Drakensberg range.
