Germany was reunified in 1990 as a Federal Republic with its historic capital of Berlin no longer a divided city, and the nation’s parliament once more in the Reichstag building. Visitors to Berlin can also enjoy the Baroque Palaces of Potsdam, the Tiergarten and the Brandenburg Gate. Other great German buildings include the sublime Gothic masterpiece of Cologne Cathedral, the fantasy castles of Bavaria, and the modernist architecture associated with the Bauhaus movement. German cuisine is also world-famous: there are over 1500 varieties of sausage. The favourite drink is beer. Lager, Kolsch, Bock, Dunkel and Weissbier are some of the styles.
