Ireland
Ireland is a land with a rich cultural heritage, of which the Irish language, folk music and dance, and the traditional sports of Hurling and Gaelic Football are a few examples. From the rocky western coast, with its cliffs and islands, to the beautiful city of Dublin, in the east, Ireland presents the visitor with a host of memorable attractions. There are castles and stately homes, churches and ancient monastic centres of early Celtic Christianity, as well as the relics of even earlier times like the megalithic tomb at Newgrange and the mysterious Hill of Tara. Fishing is a favourite pastime in the great loughs and rivers, while golfers and lovers of horse racing are also well catered for upon the green turf of the Emerald Isle. Wild mountain regions contain scenic jewels like Glendalough and the Ring of Kerry. Ireland has made an outstanding contribution to World literature, with writers like Shaw, Yeats and Joyce. No visit to the capital city would be complete without a visit to the home of Guinness, ‘the black stuff’, and to Trinity College Library, to marvel at Ireland’s greatest treasure, the illuminated manuscript known as The Book of Kells.
